My black velvet coat
So deceiving in its looks
The way the creases fall
As it hangs up on its hook
My black velvet coat
Promises to keep me warm
To keep out the cold
When secretly it’s torn
My black velvet coat
Has more holes than first thought
Barely covers my back
And is also too short
My black velvet coat
It played me like a toy
Tricked me into believing
And then stole all my joy
-to all the empty promises
